In George West, one man has devoted more than three decades of his life to public service.
We are talking about Live Oak County Sheriff Larry Busby and he holds some pretty incredible records.
At the age of 74, Busby is recognized as the longest active sheriff in Texas.
He also has the fourth-longest tenure as a sheriff in the history of Texas.
He’s been the top lawman in Live Oak County since 1981 and he tells us he plans to run in the next election.
“Just follow the rules, follow the law, that don’t mean you got to be easy with people or let them get away with things but just treat them with respect,” Busby said.
The sheriff is actually closing in on the second spot in the longest tenured sheriff in Texas history. He’ll reach that at the end of this current term.
