According to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden, the driver — identified as 26-year-old Josh Winegeart of Sweetwater — said that he had a blowout near Hopkins Road.

His truck went between the two bridges and back onto I-20.

The tanker then burst into flames, sending a large, thick plume of black smoke billowing into the air.

Madden said Winegeart suffered burns, a head injury and multiple fractures. He was flown to a Lubbock hospital.

Winegeart was hauling 7,700 gallons of agricultural diesel.

The Texas Department of Transportation is checking out the damage to the bridge to determine whether or not it is stable enough to hold together and travel on.
